Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
&FAQ.
Q: Where are the reserves listed, where do I reserve a character?
A: On the application page. Make sure you give your character name and series for a reserve. A reserve only lasts two weeks, so please make sure you get your application in before the time is up! Alternatively, please do not reserve a character if you don't plan on applying (and don't apply if you don't plan on being active).

Q: Where do I post my introduction?
A: All introductions should be made in [info]inmidianooc. If you are not a member of [info]inmidianooc, please join.

Q: What will happen if I put my introduction in the main community anyway?
A: It will be deleted. Sorry, but as mods, our job is to make sure that information is readily accessible.

Q: Okay, so I've posted my introduction in [info]inmidianooc! Omigod, what do I do next?
A: Comment with your user name on THIS POST and then the necessary information on THIS POST. Since there are so many players, we all have to accept a little responsibility, especially to characters who might join later. So let's be kind to them and make it easy for them to friend us! After that fill out THE CHARACTER FILE and put it in your character's user info. You are required to have this and your character's name in your profile.

Q: How long do I have after I'm accepted to post?
A: You have one week. If you don't post and become active within a week, your character will be removed. However, if you tell us beforehand that you need longer, we'll give it to you. If you need more time on short notice, inform us when you get back and we'll re-add you!

Q: I'm going on hiatus. What do I do?
A: Inform us in THIS ENTRY.

When you return from hiatus, inform the mods in the same post. A hiatus can last a maximum of two weeks. Contact a mod if it will be any longer.

Q: I'm dropping a character. What do I do?
A: Post a comment HERE, informing the mods as to which character you are dropping. Do not post it anywhere else. Please do not IM us telling us you want to drop a character; while we are here for you, sometimes we do forget things.

Q: How long can I reserve a character for?
A: One week. There are very few exceptions to this rule, but if you ask nicely, we'll probably be willing to extend a hold. :D

Q: I'm uncomfortable with a player/event/situation. What should I do?
A: If something is making you uncomfortable, let the other person know and request that the action stop. If the issue persists, contact a mod. We're here to help you.

Please note that these matters are to be dealt with privately. Do not bring these things to the communities or the journals. Contact information is given for a reason, after all.

Asking another player for personal information that has not been volunteered is harassment. Harassment will not be tolerated. Cool kids do not harass other kids and only cool kids are allowed in our playground.

Q: I'm uncomfortable with a player's character and/or characterization. What should I do?
A: Be considerate. Not everyone's opinion is your opinion. If you're that bothered by another player's characterization, offer help and advice, but do it politely.

Keep in mind some players are new and still trying to figure out what they're doing. If they don't want your advice, drop it. Be considerate. Above all else, we are here to have fun, not create real life drama.

If you still have a problem (as well as other people), please contact a moderator, asap.

Q: What's this Midian thing originally from?
A: It's a short story in a book called Cabal by Clive Barker. It's also a badly adapted movie called Nightbreed that Clive himself was disappointed with and hopes to fix in the near future with scenes that were cut out or severely edited. However, this RP is so loosely based on it, you'll go "lol wut?" if you read it. Even so, it should be on everyone's need-to-read list.

Q: Who is all that art in the main info by?
A: Once again, Clive Barker.

Q: Wait, so do I need to be familiar with this Clive Barker and his stuff to play?
A: By all means, no! This is loosely based on Cabal and requires no prior knowledge that isn't in the FAQ, rules, application, or story.

Q: I want my character to have died in ______, do his/her wounds have to be permanent?
A: Yes and no. Some may heal slightly, but if you want your character to have been shot in the head, it will still be visible. Choose carefully and wisely. You may choose to have your character heal almost completely (within reason if it's something awkward) or have the reminders permanent. It's your choice.

Q: So... does my character bleed? Do their hearts beat? Do they still have other bodily fluids?
A: Yes, no, yes. They still bleed, their hearts don't beat, and they have all other bodily fluids and, erm. Bowel movements. However, skin will be a shade lighter and cold to the touch.

Q: What about injuries that happen here? What if someone gets like... disemboweled or their head cut off?
A: Injuries last far less longer than it would in their world. If someone uses magic, it'd heal automatically. If someone loses a limb, it returns within a week. If your character is so damaged that they would essentially "die" than their body and mind disappears into a coma-like state for a week. It's up to you what they see or do (it's suggested they live in some kind of dream world, hallucinate, etc. Typical coma stuff.) at that time, but they will not be able to update their journals or contact others during this period.

Q: I want to apply for _____ but _____ is already here! Can I take them from a different timeline?
A: Nope. This is considered "canon" to a certain degree. So since X!Subaru is here, we can't have TB!Subaru. He's already lived that part of his life before coming here. We can have TRC!Subaru because he's a completely alternate version of the person.

Q: How does my character arrive?
A: Falling. A big gaping hole is in front of them as they walk through a plainscape with thousands of flowers. It hurts when they fall. They wake up at the bottom of the graveyard staircase in Midian. Your character can leave Midian and go to the cemetery, but they dare not go past the gates and into the world of the living. Your character cannot touch the light, so it's best they stay in Midian.

Q: But what happens if they touch the light of the Above World?
A: Think vampires. Hiss, scream, cry, feel fried. The pressure on their skulls is enormous and their brain feels like it's going to explode. Eyes become dilated, wild, and bloodshot. Skin feels on fire, mouth becomes dry and they can barely think, let alone move. Your character is welcome to try to leave, but they won't make it very far.

Q: What about those creatures in the info? And those plants and things?
A: They're all over Midian. They mostly have no names (unless they can verbalise things) and some are good and bad. Which creatures, plant life, and places are (mostly) left up to you and your imagination, so let it run wild!

Q: So how does my character communicate with others?
A: They wake up with a Blackberry-like device that's nice and slim (think Razr cellphones) that has net access, AIM-like programs, and a journal. It has a camera, too. It can send images to other devices or post the images to their journals. It's also a cellphone and has a map and quite a bit of information about how they arrived, etc. There is no limit to how much it can store. It's essential for survival in Midian. While it has net access, your character cannot go to "websites," it only connects to "the network," which is the journals and the main community.

Q: Do they eat and sleep?
A: They can but they don't need to. They might feel famished or tired, but they don't need any of the sort. It's all about what's in the mind. Your character is so used to eating and sleeping that their brain still tricks them into thinking that it's needed. Obviously, some characters can go beyond this quickly and others will choose to deny their death and treat it like every day life from before.

Q: So where do they get food or money for food or shelter or _____?
A: Food is free. It can be found amongst abandoned shops which, if your character would like to, can take over. The abandoned shops are near the grounded houses on the northeast area of the ground village. There's also farms in the southeast area. Shelter can be found in clusters of abandoned houses and buildings, as well as tree houses. Anything else can probably be covered in this FAQ.

Q: ...so how does the shops not run out of items?
A: Clearly, the answer is magic. No, really. It just restocks itself when no one's around. Don't put too much thought into it, okay?

Q: Can my character(s) use magic, powers, etc. that they had in their home world?
A: Of course! They're no stronger or weaker than they were in their world. The moderators trust you to be realistic about this. :3

Q: Can I have an idea of how they can get into a house?
A: The tree houses have no keys. Some have stairs carved into their massive trunks, other's have rope ladders. The only way to find out if someone has claimed them is if you look. If the latch to the opening in the homes with rope ladders is locked, it's a sure-fire that they're taken. The normal houses (which resemble the more rectangular and compact British-style of homes) can be found near the shops. The keys of unclaimed houses are still in the locks on the doors. A character can take them out of a house they find suitable and keep the keys to themselves.

Q: What's the inside look like?
A: For both the tree houses and ground houses, everything is rather meticulous. It can vary greatly or not at all from house to house. However, all furniture and electronics are already in the house.

Q: Kyaaa! There's monsters, though! How can my character get safe?
A: Wherever there's a "village" of sorts, tree houses or ground houses, there are barriers around them. Monsters can't get in. If they try to, they're thrown back violently, with a force enough to kill them.

However, the ground houses' barrier is much weaker. If a hoard of monsters all came at it at once, there's a chance they could enter the area where the population tends to live....

Q: But what about the good monsters or "normal animals," the kinds that come from our character's worlds?
A: There's a lot of them. Midian isn't just full of demons and crazy. If there's no intent to harm your character (and never will be), the creature can pass through the barrier.

Q: Can my character get pregnant?
A: Absolutely not. Sorry.

Q: What about rape, threesomes, cheating, abuse, etc.?
A: This is alright, but please be responsible. Both (or more?) players must consent to this and you can't exclusively RP these things with one player or whatever. You must take into consideration how this character and the others will react and how it will affect your's and other's gameplay. That being said, rape and excessive violence and abuse must be mod-approved.

Have a question about something that isn't covered in the FAQ or anywhere else? Ask it here.

MY SAMPLE POST HAS 359 WORDS.

THAT'S AFTER CONDENSING IT.

My question is this; will you accept a 359-word third-person sample, or will I get the boot?

WE WOULD RAGE AND IGNORE YOU AND DELETE YOUR APPLICATION.

Juuuust kidding. It's fine, really. ♥ A lot of apps have a 300-something wordcount for sample logs or entries, yet they never keep up with it in-game, so why bother? We just want a taste, not to cop a feel. x3 But yes, it's perfectly fine!

I'm sorry. I seem to be abusing the Q&A. orz

I-I screwed up. See, Kaoru would have known if people from his world had died, but it completely just flew out of my mind until just now. S-so. My question is please tell me it's possible to say time passed differently or something</s>. If that is null and void, w-what are the rules on deleting threads (with the other player's permission, of course) and starting over to pull the rug over stupid mistakes?

Nevermind, I'm still an idiot, and over-reacting is still my first response to everything.

I am sorry for whatever inbox I'm spamming. DX I'll shut up now, I swear.

alksjdasd sorry!

Anyway, just ooc-contact them and be all HEY, MIND IF I DELETE THIS AND WE START OVER? Or even if not deleting, just mention that you need to ignore the part where you forgot they died, etc. It's perfectly fine bb. ♥

Ahaha, I've had worse. You should see what some of the people in this RP do in my personal journal.
